Version 0.1-13 of Freecity Mod, my player for the french ISP "Free" is out. The concept is a multimedia application build around VLC, with an SQL-based backend, able to stream over http onto the freebox or any other destination. The source of the streams can be DVD, videos from streaming sites, images, sound etc.
Updates for YouTube, Dailymotion (plus support of their HQ videos), Wat.tv (plus support of the music clips, that they proxy to alloclips). Demos available at Freecity Mod Videos, dailymotion. The packages are available at the SourceForge Freecity Mod Download page. Right now, only the streaming sites are functionnal - here is a snapshot: Just install the package (install Perl5 and Apache.2.2 beforehand on Windows), make sure you have a VLC binary that is not MPEG-2 orphaned (like on debian because of s/w patents...), and go to http://localhost:8080. French people must configure something else on their router to get it on the TV -; they should (have to) know. In fact freecity could run, I believe, with many other ISP boxes that are able to receive an stream from VLC. With the french ISP's box, so-called the freebox, there is a big constraint: HTML-3.2 and nothing else (no frame, cookies, javascript, etc...). That's why the output of freecity is rather static - nevertheless there is javascript to handle all modern browsers, in case you access Freecity from your PC. So yes, with Freecity, you can watch on your TV a lot of videos that comes from famous video streaming sites, e.g. YouTube, DailyMotion, Megavideo, etc... Jeudi, 22 octobre 2009

linux-2.6.24 : recompiling debian ... Posté par Jean-Damien Durand

So, finally I decided not to take the zen patchset and start from debian's linux kernel. Here is how I did it (note that I did that as root, thus no fakeroot but still a make xconfig):
apt-get install linux-source-2.6.24 Please note that I explicitely left unchecked the ralink that is in the mainline tarball. Instead I built all the ralink modules family using the cvs snapshots that are at the rt2x00 download page. On one of my desktop I need rt2570 module, and oh well, it works. Hibernation as well. I'll try on another desktop, that needs rt2500pci. Packages has been uploaded to: deb http://jeandamiendurand.free.fr/debian/kernel sid main If you are going to use uvesa graphic driver, then you must also install the v86d userspace helper. You can take it from here: ## v86d executable The "uname -a" output is now: Linux jddhome01 2.6.24 #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Feb 5 21:21:52 CET 2008 i686 GNU/Linux My full .config is here. linux-2.6.24 and ralink Posté par Jean-Damien Durand

Wouaouh, the linux kernel 2.6.24 is out. I gave it a try, together with the zen-sources but, bad luck since a long time with linux kernel, the version of rt2x00 that is now in the mainline is somewhat buggy. Indeed, even if I do not mind seeing my good old ra0 device between moved to two devices: wmaster0 and wlan0 (after changing /etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-net.rules, otherwise you get a wlan0_renamed device!), I never manager to associate to my AP!
So I will give it another try, sure, but I will not compile rt2x00 family that is in the official tarball. Crossing fingers. EDIT: ahem, just easy as quoted here Jeudi, 10 janvier 2008 |
